FAQs
What is Scholars?
Do we have to be Christians to join Scholars?
Scholars believes in, loves and serves Jesus. While students and their parents are not required to have personally chosen Christ in order to join our Scholars Community, they should be aware that we will share the love of God and truth about God and the Bible with our students through lessons, instruction, conversation, social times, and correction.
Scholars does require that a commitment is made to support our statement of faith, in and out of the classroom, and that reverence is shown for God and the Bible by our students and families. This includes obedience to Biblical principles such as showing kindness and respect; avoiding dark or hurtful conversations; avoiding gossip about students, other families, teachers or staff; and following Godly principles as outlined in the Bible. Parents and students must sign the Scholars Statement of Faith during the registration process in order to attend Scholars.
Other than academics, what else does Scholars offer?
In addition to high quality academics, Scholars endeavors to help our students and families make connections and build relationships. We do this through Coffee House, prayer meetings, parent and student workshops, field trips, social activities, service opportunities and Student Leadership Council. None of these activities are required, but they are highly encouraged to make the most of the Scholars community.
What is CoffeeHouse?
At Scholars, building relationships is a high priority. CoffeeHouse is a large space available for students who have a break in their schedule or to hang out before or after their classes. Scholars offers free coffee and hot cocoa and students can study or hang out with friends by enjoying ping pong, puzzles and games.
How does lunch work?
Scholars offers a 30 minute, supervised lunch period. Students must bring their own lunch, but microwaves are available for their use.
What should I do if my student will be absent, arrive late or leave early?
Please email [email protected] and the appropriate teacher(s) with any attendance variations. This allows us to keep a record of attendance for security purposes. Please do not text the Scholars number for absences.
I'm new to homeschooling. How do I start?
Homeschooling in Texas offers many advantages, but it also requires the parent to take on the full responsibilty of their child's education. Scholars is not a traditional school and we do not advise which classes your child needs, but we are honored to come alongside you to provide in-person classes with experienced teachers to help you on your journey.
Check out Texas Homeschool Coalition to learn about withdrawing from public school, state laws, graduation requirements and more.
Schedule a Meet & Greet to visit our campus and see if Scholars is a good fit for your family.
Does Scholars issue transcripts?
A transcript is an official document that records all of the coursework and grades for a student's high school years. Because Scholars is a homeschool partner, the classes a student takes with us are only a portion of their comprehensive academic experience. Scholars provides periodic and annual grade reports for parents to include in the transcripts they compile for their students.
How do I create a transcript for my student?
Texas Homeschool Coalition has compiled everything parents need to know about creating transcripts. See the article here.
Are Scholars courses accredited?
No, Scholars courses are not accredited. We are a partner to come alongside parents to help with the home education of their children.
